Charging System Test

Charging System Test

1 Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle? - Go to Step 2  Go to Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle
2 Start the engine, observe the charge indicator on the instrument panel cluster (IPC) or message in the driver information center (DIC).
Does the charge indicator illuminate or the DIC display a charging system message?
- Go to Step 3  Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Connect the red lead of the SA9154Z-A  Starting and Charging System Tester to the battery positive terminal. See Special Tools .
  3. Connect the grey lead of the SA9154Z-A  to the output circuit of the generator. See Special Tools .
  4. Start the engine.
  5. Turn On the SA9154Z-A  . See Special Tools .
  6. Turn all vehicle accessories Off.
  7. Follow the SA9154Z-A  prompts. See Special Tools .
  8. Press CHARGING SYSTEM TEST.
Is the voltage displayed within the specified value?
13.0-15.5 V Go to Step 4  Go to Step 5 
4 Is the generator output current greater than or equal to the load test value given in Generator Usage  ? - Go to Step 6  Go to Step 5 
5 Replace the generator. Refer to Generator Replacement (2.2L (L61))  or Generator Replacement (3.5L (L66)) .
Did you complete the replacement?
- Go to Step 6  -
6 Operate the vehicle in order to verify the repair.
Did you correct the condition?
- Generator OK Go to Step 2
