Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2006 Cadillac STS. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
    CAUTION: Refer to SIR Inflator Module Handling and Storage Caution in Cautions and Notices.
    CAUTION: Following the deployment of a side impact air bag, inspect the following parts for damage. Replace these parts if necessary:
    • The seat cushion frame
    • The seat recliner, if equipped
    • The seat adjuster
    • The seat back frame

    Failure to do so may cause future personal injury.
  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling  for driver's seat or SIR Disabling and Enabling  for passenger seat.
  2. IMPORTANT: Removal of the right or the left inflatable restraint side impact module uses the same procedure.

  3. Move the seat to the full forward position.
  4. Grasp the top portion of the seat back trim cover (2) and pull out to release the push-in fasteners.
  5. Firmly lift upwards to remove the seat back trim cover (2) from the seat.

  7. Remove the 2 bolts (1) from the inflatable restraint side impact module bracket.
  8. Remove the module from the seat.
  9. Remove the connector position assurance (CPA) from the module electrical connector.

  11. Disconnect the electrical connector (1) from the module.
