Installation Procedure

  1. Install the pitman arm if necessary. Refer to Pitman Arm Replacement .
  2. Install the steering gear to the vehicle.
    3. Fig 1: View Of Steering Gear Bolts

    CAUTION: Refer to Fastener Caution .
    NOTE: Start all of the steering gear bolts by hand and fully seat them before finalizing the torque.
  3. Install the steering gear bolts (1) and tighten to 150 N.m (110 lb ft).

  4. Install the pitman arm to the relay rod.
  5. Install the pitman arm nut (1) and tighten to 62 N.m (46 lb ft).
  6. Connect the power steering hoses to the steering gear. Tighten the hoses fittings to 32 N.m (24 lb ft).
  7. Connect the steering shaft coupling. Refer to Steering Shaft Coupling Replacement .
  8. Clean any excess fluid from the vehicle and remove the drain pans.
  9. If equipped with a diesel engine, install the left wheelhouse liner. Refer to Front Wheelhouse Liner Replacement - Left Side .
  10. Install the engine shield, if equipped. Refer to Engine Shield Replacement .
  11. Lower the vehicle.
  12. Fill and bleed the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .
