Circuit/System Testing

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2008 Cadillac XLR. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the traffic information reciever.
  2. Ignition OFF, test for less than 5 ohms between the traffic information reciever ground circuit terminal 5 and ground.
    • If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for and open/high resistance.
  3. Verify that a test lamp illuminates between the B+ circuit terminal 3 and ground.
    • If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the B+ circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance.
  4. Ignition ON, verify that a test lamp illuminates between the accessory voltage circuit terminal 4 and ground.
    • If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the voltage circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the BCM.
  5. Connect the harness connector at the traffic information reciever.
  6. Ignition OFF, disconnect the X3 harness connector at the radio.
  7. Ignition ON, verify that a test lamp illuminates between the request signal circuit terminal 2 and ground.
    • If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the signal circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, test or replace the traffic information reciever.
  8. Verify that a test lamp illuminates between the high signal circuit terminal 3 and ground.
    • If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the signal circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, test or replace the traffic information reciever.
  9. Verify that a test lamp illuminates between the low signal circuit terminal 6 and ground.
    • If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the signal circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, test or replace the traffic information reciever.
  10. Verify that a test lamp illuminates between B+ and the drain wire circuit terminal 5 and ground.
    • If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the drain wire circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, test or replace the traffic information reciever.
  11. If all circuits test normal, replace the radio.
