Circuit/System Testing
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2008 GMC Sierra, 2008 GMC Cab & Chassis Sierra, 2008 Chevrolet Silverado, and 2008 Chevrolet Cab & Chassis Silverado. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector of the appropriate rear object sensor.
- Ignition OFF for 30 seconds, test for less than 5.0 ohms between the low reference circuit terminal 2 and ground.
- If greater than the specified range, test the low reference circuit for an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the object alarm module.
- Ignition ON, transmission in REVERSE, test for 8.0-9.0 volts between the rear object sensor supply voltage circuit terminal 1 and ground.
- If greater than the specified range, test the supply voltage circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the object alarm module.
- If less than the specified range, test the supply voltage circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the object alarm module.
- Ignition OFF, connect the appropriate rear object sensor and disconnect X1 harness connector at the object alarm module.
- Ignition ON, test for less than 1.0V between signal circuit and ground of the appropriate rear object sensor listed below:
- LR middle object sensor signal circuit terminal 3
- LR corner object sensor signal circuit terminal 5
- RR middle object sensor signal circuit terminal 2
- RR corner object sensor signal circuit terminal 1
- If greater than the specified range, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage.
- Ignition OFF, test for infinite resistance between signal circuit and ground of the appropriate rear object sensor listed below:
- LR middle object sensor signal circuit terminal 3
- LR corner object sensor signal circuit terminal 5
- RR middle object sensor signal circuit terminal 2
- RR corner object sensor signal circuit terminal 1
- If less than the specified value, test the signal circuit for a short to ground.
- Test for less than 2 ohms between the sensor signal circuit terminal 3 and signal circuit of the appropriate rear object sensor listed below:
- LR middle object sensor signal circuit terminal 3
- LR corner object sensor signal circuit terminal 5
- RR middle object sensor signal circuit terminal 2
- RR corner object sensor signal circuit terminal 1
- If greater than the specified range, test the signal circuit for an open/high resistance.
- If all circuits test normal, test or replace the appropriate rear object alarm sensor and verify that the DTC does not reset.
- If the DTC resets, replace object alarm module.
IMPORTANT:
Because the object alarm module does not update rear object sensor data when a DTC is set, the diagnostic can not determine whether the module or the sensor is causing the DTC to set.
