Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 6 other vehicles, including the 2003 GMC Savana Special, 2003 GMC Savana Camper Special, 2003 GMC Savana, 2003 Chevrolet RV Cutaway, and 2003 Chevrolet Cutaway. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Install the leaf spring to the vehicle.
Perform the following procedure before installing the front hanger bracket mounting bolt.
1. Remove all traces of the original adhesive patch.
2. Clean the threads of the bolt with brake parts cleaner or the equivalent and allow to dry.
3. Apply Threadlocker GM P/N 12345493 (Canadian P/N 10953488) to the threads of the bolt.
Loosely install the leaf spring to the front hanger bracket mounting bolt and nut.

Install the leaf spring (1) to the spring shackle (5) mounting bolt and nut (3).

Important: Do not reuse the leaf spring U-bolts.
Install the leaf spring spacer.
Install the leaf spring U-bolts.
Install the leaf spring anchor plate.
NOTE: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

Install the leaf spring U-bolt nuts.
Tighten
- Tighten the leaf spring U-bolt mounting nuts to 85 N.m (63 lb ft) (All 1500 Series).
- Tighten the leaf spring U-bolt mounting nuts to 140 N.m (103 lb ft) (All 2500 Series and 3500 Series Cargo and Passenger Vans and Cutaways With 9Q4).
- Tighten the leaf spring U-bolt mounting nuts to 147 N.m (108 lb ft) (3500 Series Cutaways Without 9Q4).
Tighten the front hanger bracket and spring shackle mounting nuts.
Tighten
- Tighten the front hanger bracket mounting nut to 110 N.m (80 lb ft) + a 200 degree turn.
- Tighten the spring shackle mounting nut to 90 N.m (66 lb ft).
Remove the rear axle support.
Lower the vehicle.
