Spark Plug Usage

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Pontiac Sunfire, 2003 Pontiac Grand Am, 2003 Oldsmobile Alero, and 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Ensure that the correct spark plug is installed. An incorrect spark plug causes driveability conditions. Refer to Ignition System Specifications for the correct spark plug. See IGNITION SYSTEMS in SERVICE & SPECIFICATIONS - 2.2L ALERO, CAVALIER, GRAND AM & SUNFIRE article. Ensure that the spark plug has the correct heat range. An incorrect heat range causes spark plug fouling (colder plug), pre-ignition, causing spark plug and/or engine damage (hotter plug).
