Installation Procedure

Put the steering column in the uppermost tilted position.

Install the spring guide (1) to the tilt spring (2).

WARNING:

The tilt spring and the spring guide are under pressure. The tilt spring and the spring guide may become a projectile. Secure the spring with locking pliers during removal. Secure the spring with locking pliers during installation. Bodily injury may result during removal and installation of the tilt spring and the spring guide. Always use caution during removal and installation of the tilt spring and the spring guide.

Install the tilt spring (1) onto the steering column (2) using the following procedure:
1. Install the tilt spring (1) onto the post on the steering column tilt head (3).
2. Install the tilt spring (1) onto the post on the steering column (2).
3. Remove the locking pliers.
Install the steering column shroud. Refer to Steering Column Shroud Replacement (With Electronic Tilt Steering) , Steering Column Shroud Replacement (Without Electronic Tilt Steering) .
Install the knee bolster. Refer to Knee Bolster Replacement (Except Cadillac) , Knee Bolster Replacement (Cadillac) .
