Circuit/System Verification

  1. Ignition ON.
  2. Test for greater than 12 V between the battery positive terminal and negative terminal.
    • If greater than 12 V
  3. Verify no DTCs are set.
    • If no DTCs are set
  4. Verify Battery Sensor Module Battery State Information parameter reads Available (Learned) and Battery Sensor Module Reset Occurred - Using Estimated State of Charge reads No (Measured).
    • If parameters read Not Available (Not Learned) and No (Measured).
    1. Verify with customer if vehicle may have been jump started or been used to jump start another vehicle, or if the battery has been charged recently.
      • If Yes, Disconnect and reconnect the negative battery cable.
      • If No
    2. Connect a DMM to the battery terminals. Verify the battery voltage stays above 8.7 V while starting engine..
    3. If parasitic current is less than 100mA, replace Battery Sensor Module.
    • If parameters read Available (Learned) and No (Measured) or reads Not Available (Not Learned) and Yes (Estimated)
  5. NOTE:

If parameters read Not Available (Not Learned) and Yes (Estimated) the vehicle needs to sit for 3 hours undisturbed but is not required  to have the start/stop enabled. After a 3 hour Battery Sensor Module Learn the parameters Battery Sensor Module Battery State Information and Battery Sensor Module Reset Occurred - Using Estimated State of Charge change to Available (Learned) and No (Measured) after the engine is cranked.

    NOTE:

A vehicle hoist can be used to verify the autostop and autostart operation.

  6. Verify the autostop and autostart functions are functioning properly while operating the vehicle under the conditions for entering a start/stop event. Refer to Stop/Start System Description and Operation (with KL9) .
    • If the vehicle does not autostop or autostart
    1. Observe the scan tool Autostop Disable Reason, Autostop Inhibit Reason, Autostart Inhibit, and Autostart Reason parameters while operating the vehicle under the conditions for entering a start/stop event. Refer to Stop/Start Disable, Inhibit, and Restart Reasons . These parameters will identify the specific cause for the autostop or autostart disable.
    • If the vehicle autostops and autostarts
  7. Verify the infotainment system remains active during a start/stop event.
    • If the infotainment system turns off or restarts during a start/stop event.

Refer to Circuit/System Testing - Power Supply Transformer Circuit Malfunction

    • If the infotainment system remains active during a start/stop event
  8. All OK.
