Installation Procedure

    Connect the mid intermediate steering shaft (1) to the upper intermediate steering shaft.

  2. Press in the lock pin on the mid lower intermediate steering shaft and pull the mid intermediate steering shaft (1) and upper intermediate steering shaft downward and forward along the axis of the upper intermediate steering shaft onto the mid lower intermediate steering shaft. Make sure the lock pin is seated correctly.

    CAUTION:

    Refer to Fastener Caution .

    Mid Intermediate Steering Shaft Bolt (1) - Install and tighten to 36 N.m (27 lb ft)

    1. Thread the cleaned component into the internal mating threads and remove to loosen trapped cured adhesive.
    2. Apply thread locking adhesive to the external threads of the component. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers 
  4. UNLOCK and turn the steering wheel so the mid intermediate steering shaft bolt at the mid lower intermediate steering shaft can be installed in the engine compartment.

    Mid Intermediate Steering Shaft Bolt (1) - Install and tighten to 36 N.m (27 lb ft)

    1. Thread the cleaned component into the internal mating threads and remove to loosen trapped cured adhesive.
    2. Apply thread locking adhesive to the external threads of the component. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers

    Inspect the two-piece boot (1) on the upper intermediate steering shaft and the connection point of the upper intermediate steering shaft and the mid intermediate steering shaft. Verify the connection point at the two steering shafts is assembled correctly and that the two-piece boot is NOT torn at any point. The two-piece boot is NOT serviceable. If the two-piece boot is torn, the entire upper intermediate steering shaft MUST be replaced.
