Assemble pistons and rods as indicated in Fig. 12. The notch cast in the piston heads must face the front of the engine when the piston and connecting rod assemblies are installed. Correct piston and connecting rod assembly installation is extremely important as incorrect installation could cause an engine knock. Upon installation, measure the connecting rod side clearance using a suitable feeler gauge. Measurement obtained should be .006---.022 inch.
