Brake Switch (Cruise Control): Description and Operation

The cruise control is disengaged by depressing the clutch or brake pedal. This system uses two separate clutch or brake release switches. When the clutch or brake pedal is depressed, an electrical release switch opens which releases the resume solenoid, and vacuum to the transducer is vented. The transducer mechanical memory records the speed set earlier and requires resume switch operation to re-engage. When the clutch or brake pedal is depressed, a vacuum release valve is also operated, venting system vacuum to the air. This valve enables the servo unit to rapidly bleed vacuum and return the throttle to idle position.
