Oxygen Sensor: Service and Repair

NOTE: Oxygen sensor may be difficult to remove if engine temperature is below 120° F. Do not use excessive force, as this may damage threads in exhaust manifold or exhaust pipe.

NOTE: The pigtail and connector on the oxygen sensor are permanently attached and should not be removed.
- Removal of, or damage to, the pigtail or connector may affect proper operation of the sensor.
- When replacing the sensor, keep the in-line electrical connector and louvered end free of grease or other contaminants, including cleaning solvents.

1. Disconnect electrical connector and any attaching hardware, then remove the sensor--Fig 27.
2. Reverse procedure to install. Torque sensor to 30 ft lb.

NOTE: New oxygen sensors are precoated with an anti-seize compound, however, if existing sensor is being reinstalled, coat its threads with a suitable anti-seize compound.
