Transmission Control System Relay: Testing and Inspection

1. With accelerator pedal released, check for voltage at terminals 1 and 4. If voltage is not available, replace transmission switch.

2. Check for voltage at terminals 5 and 6. Relay is functioning properly if voltage at terminal 5 drops to zero and terminal 6 is supplied with voltage when transmission is shifted into neutral position. If no voltage is obtained at terminal 6 or if voltage is abnormally lower than voltage at terminal 1 when transmission is shifted in neutral position, the contact points should be cleaned or replaced.

3. If voltage conditions at terminals 5 and 6 are not reversed when the transmission is shifted to 3rd or 4th gear, the relay coil should be replaced.
