Fuel Injection System - 4-CYL Diesel: Description

Chevette and 1000 diesel fuel injection system consists of a mechanical injection pump driven by camshaft through a cogged belt, 4 high pressure fuel pipes, 4 injection nozzles, a fuel filter with an integral water separator, a fuel cut solenoid mounted on injection pump and a glow plug system to warm engine for starting.

Chevette and 1000 diesel engines are electronically controlled in the start and warm-up modes to permit easier cold starting and cold driving. An electronic module monitors and corrects combustion chamber temperatures during preheat and afterglow modes. System consists of a controller, glow plug indicator, dropping resistor, sensing resistor, glow plugs, thermo switch, 2 glow plug relays and 2 fusible links.

The engine has an EGR system to control emissions. Components of the system include an EGR controller, speed sensor, coolant sensor and control lever position sensor. A vacuum pump on the back of the alternator provides vacuum for the EGR valve.
