Rack Bearing Preload
- With steering gear installed, raise and support vehicle. Position wheels in straight-ahead position. Loosen adjuster plug lock nut. See Fig 1 . Rotate adjuster plug clockwise until it bottoms in housing.
- Back off adjuster plug 50-70 degrees (approximately one flat). Tighten adjuster plug lock nut to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS table at end of article. DO NOT allow adjusting plug to rotate while tightening lock nut.
NOTE:
Ensure steering wheel returns to center position after adjusting rack bearing preload.
