Starter Motor: Service and Repair

If shims are used between starter and engine block, they should be placed in their original location during installation.
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Raise and support vehicle.
3. Remove starter to engine brace and starter heat shields, if equipped.
4. Remove flywheel housing cover.
5. Remove starter mounting bolts and lower starter. Note position of shims, if used.
6. Disconnect solenoid wires, then the battery cable.
7. Remove starter from vehicle.
8. Reverse procedure to install.
