WARNING: Adjust shift cable so engine will start with transaxle in Park or Neutral only. Misadjusted shift linkage could cause clutch and/or band failure in transaxle.
NOTE: Most FWD vehicles are equipped with a self-adjusting shift cable.
  1. Raise and support vehicle. Remove engine under cover. Place gearshift lever in Neutral. Loosen control shaft lever nut. Push control shaft lever fully toward right side of vehicle. Rotate lever 2 notches toward Neutral position. Set shift lever to Neutral. See Fig 1 .
  2. While holding shift lever lightly toward Reverse position, tighten nut. Reinstall undercover. Lower vehicle. Ensure transaxle operates in all gear positions. Ensure vehicle will not move with ignition switch in LOCK position, and transaxle gearshift lever in Park. Ensure correct operation in other gearshift positions.
