Visual/Physical Check

Several of the symptom procedures ask for a Careful Visual/Physical inspection. This step is extremely important - it can lead to correcting a problem without further testing and can save valuable time. This inspection checks for the following:
^ PCM grounds are clean, tight, and in their proper location.
^ Vacuum hoses are not split, kinked, and proper connections are present, as shown on the Vehicle Emission Control Information label. Inspect thoroughly for any type of leak or restriction
^ Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor is installed correctly. The arrows on the plastic portion of the sensor must point toward the engine
^ Air intake ducts are not collapsed or damaged.
^ No Air leaks at throttle body mounting area, Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor, and the intake manifold sealing surfaces.
^ Ignition wires are not cracked, hardened or carbon tracking.
^ Ignition wires are routed correctly.
^ Engine wiring is not damaged.
^ Terminals have proper connections.
