Cruise Control Switch Indicator Light Inoperative

  1. If cruise control system does not operate properly, go to appropriate SYSTEM TEST. If cruise control system operates properly and CRUISE indicator light on instrument cluster or on cruise control main switch are inoperative, go to next step. If cruise control system operates properly and CRUISE indicator light on instrument cluster and on cruise control main switch operate properly, problem is intermittent. Inspect all connections and wiring. Repair as necessary and retest system operation.
  2. Turn ignition on. Depress and release cruise control main switch. If CRUISE indicator light on cruise control main switch illuminates, go to next step. If CRUISE indicator light on cruise control main switch does not illuminate, go to step  4 .
  3. Test drive vehicle and attempt to engage cruise control system. If CRUISE indicator light on instrument cluster illuminates, return to step  1 . If CRUISE indicator light on instrument cluster does not illuminate, go to step  6 .
  4. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect cruise control servo harness connector. Using 5-amp fused jumper wire connected to ground, probe cruise control servo harness connector terminal No. 10 (Light Green/White wire). See Figure . See CRUISE CONTROL SERVO CONNECTOR TERMINAL IDENTIFICATION  table. Turn ignition switch to ON position. If CRUISE indicator light on cruise control main switch illuminates, go to step  13 . If CRUISE indicator light on cruise control main switch does not illuminate, go to next step.
  5. Ensure cruise control servo harness connector is disconnected. Disconnect cruise control main switch harness connector. See CRUISE CONTROL MAIN SWITCH  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION for access to harness connector. Check Light Green/White wire for continuity between cruise control servo harness connector terminal No. 10 and cruise control main switch harness connector terminal No. 1. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . If continuity exists, go to step  12 . If continuity does not exist, go to step  11 .
  6. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect cruise control servo harness connector. Using 5-amp fused jumper wire connected to ground, probe cruise control servo harness connector terminal No. 4 (Gray/Yellow wire). Turn ignition switch to ON position. If CRUISE indicator light on instrument panel illuminates, go to step  13 . If CRUISE indicator light on instrument panel does not illuminate, go to next step.
  7. Ensure cruise control servo harness connector is disconnected. Disconnect cruise control main switch harness connector. Check Gray/Yellow wire for continuity between cruise control servo harness connector terminal No. 4 and Gray 16-pin instrument cluster harness connector terminal No. 16. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . If continuity exists, go to step  9 . If continuity does not exist, go to next step.
  8. Repair open in Gray/Yellow wire between cruise control servo harness connector terminal No. 4 and Gray 16-pin instrument cluster harness connector terminal No. 16. Retest operation.
  9. Replace CRUISE indicator light bulb in instrument cluster. Test drive vehicle and engage cruise control system. If CRUISE indicator light on instrument cluster illuminates, system is repaired. If CRUISE indicator light on instrument cluster does not illuminate, go to next step.
  10. Repair or replace instrument cluster printed circuit. See appropriate ANALOG INSTRUMENT PANELS article.
  11. Repair open in Light Green/White wire between cruise control servo harness connector terminal No. 10 and cruise control main switch harness connector terminal No. 1. Retest operation.
  12. Replace cruise control main switch. See CRUISE CONTROL MAIN SWITCH  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Retest operation.
  13. Replace cruise control servo. See CRUISE CONTROL SERVO  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Retest operation.
