Mil On Steady

NOTE: For circuit reference, see WIRING DIAGRAM article.
  1. Perform powertrain diagnostic system check. See POWERTRAIN DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. After performing diagnostic system check, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect PCM harness connector. Turn ignition on, with engine off. Observe MIL. If MIL illuminates, go to next step. If MIL does not illuminate, go to step  4.
  3. Repair for short to ground in Red/Yellow wire between Gray 10-pin IPC harness connector terminal No. 3 and PCM harness connector. After repairs, go to step  5.
  4. Replace PCM. See appropriate REMOVAL, OVERHAUL & INSTALLATION article. Perform PCM relearn procedure. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE  under PROGRAMMING. After repairs, go to next step.
  5. Start engine. Observe MIL. If MIL turns off after 1-2 seconds, go to next step. If MIL does not turn turn off after 1-2 seconds, go to step  2.
  6. Using scan tool, observe stored information and Capture Info. If scan tool displays any undiagnosed DTCs, diangose affected DTCs. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS . If no DTCs are displayed, system is okay.
