Test C: Retained Accessory Power Inoperative: Testing

  1. If RAP diagnostic system check has not been performed, perform RETAINED ACCESSORY POWER DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If RAP diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step.
  2. Close all doors. Turn ignition switch to RUN position, with engine off. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Operate power windows. If power windows do not operate for about 3 minutes on vehicles with less than 15 miles travelled or about 10 minutes on vehicles with more than 15 miles travelled, go to next step. If power windows operate for about 3 minutes on vehicles with less than 15 miles travelled or about 10 minutes on vehicles with more than 15 miles travelled, system is okay.
  3. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Remove RAP relay from behind glove box, mounted to cross-car beam. See Figure . Connect a test light between ground and RAP relay harness connector terminal B3 (Orange wire), then terminal C3 (Red wire). If test light illuminates at both terminals, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate at both terminals, go to step  8 .
  4. Connect a test light between RAP relay harness connector terminal B3 (Orange wire) and terminal C1 (Black wire). If test light does not illuminate, go to next step. If test light illuminates, go to step  6 .
  5. Test Black wire between RAP relay harness connector terminal C1 and Body Control Module (BCM) harness connector C2 terminal D9 for short to ground. See Figure . If no problem is found, go to step  7 . If problem is found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  11 .
  6. Inspect for poor connections at RAP relay harness connector. If no problem is found, go to step  9 . If problem is found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  11 .
  7. Inspect for poor connections at BCM harness connectors. If no problem is found, go to step  10 . If problem is found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  11 .
  8. Repair open in Orange wire between RAP relay harness connector and RAP relay fuse (10-amp) in instrument panel fuse block or open in RED wire between RAP relay harness connector and IGN MAIN 2 fuse (60-amp) in underhood fuse block. See appropriate POWER DISTRIBUTION article in WIRING DIAGRAMS. After repair, go to step  11 .
  9. Replace RAP relay. After repair, go to step  11 .
  10. Replace BCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Program feature customization settings. See ENTER FEATURE CUSTOMIZATION MODE  under PROGRAMMING. After setting feature customization settings, go to next step.
  11. Connect all disconnected harness connectors and components. Check system operation. If system does not operate properly, go to step  2 . If system operates properly, system okay.
