July 1: So it begins. Don't worry, this is not in the correct legal jurisdiction!

Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to JACKING AND LIFTING in General Information.
    CAUTION: Failure to disconnect the intermediate shaft from the rack and pinion stub shaft can result in damage to the steering gear and/or intermediate shaft. This damage can cause loss of steering control which could result in personal injury.
    NOTE: When adding fluid or making a complete fluid change, always use the proper power steering fluid. Failure to use the proper fluid will cause hose and deal damage and fluid leaks.
  2. Remove the intermediate shaft from the steering gear. Refer to INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT REPLACEMENT  in Steering Wheel and Column.
  3. Use a utility stand in order to support the frame rear.
  4. Remove the frame rear bolts.
  5. Use the utility stand in order to lower the frame rear to gain access.
  6. Place the drain pan under the power steering pump and the power steering gear.
  7. Remove the power steering gear hose clip.

  8. Remove the inlet hose from the steering gear.
  9. Use the utility stand in order to raise the frame rear.
  10. Install the OLD frame bolts. Fully seat the frame bolts. Do NOT tighten the frame bolts.
  11. Lower the vehicle.
  12. Remove the drive belt. Refer to DRIVE BELT REPLACEMENT  in Engine Mechanical-3.4L.
  13. Remove the inlet hose from the pump.
  14. Remove the inlet hose from the hose retainer.
  15. Remove the inlet hose.
