Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Replacement

Preliminary Procedures

  1. Disable the supplemental inflatable restraint (SIR) system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling .
  2. Insert a small blunt ended punch, or equivalent tool, through the access opening on either side of steering wheel. Insert it approximately 48mm to contact spring.
  3. Once contact has been made with the spring, push the spring fastener inward approximately 5mm to clear the steering wheel inflator retainer spring from the steering wheel. Keep inboard pressure on the spring until you pull the module loose.
  4. On the side that the spring is released on pull rearward sharply with moderate pressure to release the module completely from the steering wheel.

Procedure: 
Fully deploy the module before disposal. If the module was replaced under warranty, fully deploy and dispose of the module after the required retention period. Refer to Inflator Module Handling and Scrapping
