July 1: So it begins. Don't worry, this is not in the correct legal jurisdiction!

Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 GMC Safari and 2004 Chevrolet Astro. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 5 .
  2. Remove the right knee bolster. Refer to Knee Bolster Replacement - Right in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.
  3. Remove the connector position assurance (CPA) retainer (2) from the inflatable restraint I/P module harness connector.
  4. Disconnect the inflatable restraint I/P module connector (1).

  5. Remove the clip that retains the inflatable restraint I/P module harness to the I/P (3).
  6. Remove the 2 bolts (2) that retain the inflatable restraint I/P module (3) to the I/P carrier.

  7. Push out from the back side in order to remove the inflatable restraint I/P module from the I/P.
  8. Fully deploy the module before disposal. If the module was replaced under warranty, fully deploy and dispose of the module after the required retention period. Refer to Inflator Module Handling and Scrapping .
