Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 8 other vehicles, including the 2004 GMC Yukon XL, 2004 GMC Yukon, 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe, 2004 Chevrolet Suburban, and 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Install the wheel speed sensor ring using the J 45860  (1) and the J 8092  (2).
  2. Drive the wheel speed sensor ring into the axle housing until the tool bottoms against the tube.

  4. Install the axle shaft bearing using the J 23690  (1) and the J 8092  (2).
  5. Drive the axle shaft bearing into the axle housing until the tool bottoms against the tube.

  7. Install the axle shaft seal using the J 21128  .
  8. Drive the tool into the bore until the axle shaft seal bottoms flush with the tube.

  10. Install the axle shaft. Refer to Rear Axle Shaft Replacement (8.6 Inch Axle W/O JL4, 9.5 Inch Axle) or Rear Axle Shaft Replacement (8.6 Inch Axle W/JL4) or Rear Axle Shaft Replacement (9.75 Inch Axle) in Rear Drive Axle.
  11. Install the rear axle housing cover. Refer to Rear Axle Housing Cover and Gasket Replacement in Rear Drive Axle.
  12. Install the rear wheel speed sensor. Refer to Wheel Speed Sensor Replacement - Rear .
  13. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  14. Fill the rear axle. Refer to Lubricant Replacement - Rear Drive Axle (8.6 Inch Axle) or Lubricant Replacement - Rear Drive Axle (9.5, 10.5 Inch Axle) or Lubricant Replacement - Rear Drive Axle (9.75 Inch Axle) in Rear Drive Axle.
  15. Lower the vehicle.
