Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 7 other vehicles, including the 2004 GMC Yukon XL, 2004 GMC Yukon, 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe, 2004 Chevrolet Suburban, and 2004 Cadillac Escalade EXT. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
CAUTION: Do not use or attempt to repair a damaged cooling fan assembly. Replace damaged fans with new assemblies. An unbalanced cooling fan could fly apart causing personal injury and property damage.

  1. Install the fan clutch bolts.
  2. Install the fan clutch onto the fan blade, if necessary.
    NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.
  3. Install the fan clutch bolts.

    Tighten:  Tighten the bolts to 23 N.m (17 lb ft).

  5. Install the fan blade.

  7. Install the J 46406  and the J 41240-5A  to the fan clutch. See Special Tools and Equipment .

    Tighten:  Tighten the fan clutch nut clockwise to 56 N.m (41 lb ft).

  8. Install the upper fan shroud. Refer to Fan Shroud Replacement - Upper (W/O M74)  or Fan Shroud Replacement - Upper (W/M74) .
