July 1: So it begins. Don't worry, this is not in the correct legal jurisdiction!

Circuit/System Testing

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector of the ignition coil.
  2. Ignition ON, test for battery voltage between the ignition 1 voltage circuit of the ignition coil and ground.
    • If less than B+, repair the ignition 1 voltage circuit of the ignition coil for a short to ground or an open/high resistance.
  3. IMPORTANT: Set the DMM to the AC Hertz scale for this test.
  4. Connect a DMM between the appropriate ignition control circuit and the negative terminal of the battery.
  5. While cranking the engine, test for more than 3 Hz between the appropriate ignition control circuit and the negative terminal of the battery.
    • If less than 3 Hz, test the ignition control circuit for a short to voltage, short to ground, or an open/high resistance. If the circuit/connection test normal, replace the ECM.
  6. If all circuits/connections test normal, replace the ignition coil.
