Warm DRIVEABILITY Test 12 - Idle Rpm Check

  1. Set parking brake. Place transmission in neutral. Turn all lights and accessories off. Connect a tachometer. Ground carburetor switch using a jumper lead. Disconnect and plug vacuum hose to the EGR valve. Remove PCV valve from valve cover and allow it to draw outside air.
  2. Disconnect and plug 3/16" hose from vapor canister. On 2-Bbl. models, disconnect and plug vacuum hose to the computer. Disconnect the carburetor 4-way connector and remove the O2 solenoid (Green wire) from the carburetor connector. Reconnect carburetor connector. Start the engine and let stabilize for 4 minutes.
  3. On 4-Bbl. models, connect a voltmeter to O2 solenoid (Green wire) and ground. Disconnect O2 sensor wiring and ground O2 sensor harness connector using a jumper lead. Start the engine and let run until voltmeter reading is a steady 7-13 volts. This may take up to 4 minutes. Tachometer reading should be at specification shown on emission label.
  4. Adjust idle RPM as necessary. Tee in propane supply into heated air temperature vacuum supply hose. Slowly meter propane supply into hose until maximum RPM is obtained. Engine speed should increase 10-110 RPM (2-Bbl. models) and 0-100 RPM (4-Bbl. models). Adjust propane idle speed as necessary. Proceed to WARM DRIVEABILITY TEST 13  .
