Single Board Engine Controller (SBEC)

The SBEC is a digital computer containing a microprocessor. The SBEC receives input from the following sensors: coolant temperature sensor, Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor, oxygen sensor, Throttle Position Sensor (TPS), and Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS).

The SBEC also receives input from the following switches: air conditioning clutch switch, brake switch, speed control switches, and neutral safety switch. During operation, the SBEC monitors many of its own input and output circuits. If a fault is detected, the computer will go into limp-in mode and store a trouble code to help in diagnosis of the system.
