Test 80A - Vehicle Theft Alarm Diagnostics

NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  . For appropriate wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS  at end of article.
  1. Ensure all doors, hood, and trunk are closed. Turn ignition off. If Vehicle Theft Alarm (VTA) indicator light flashes constantly, go to TEST 91A  .
  2. If VTA indicator light does not flash constantly, turn ignition on (engine off). Using DRB-II, select system THEFT ALARM. If Chrysler Collision Detection (CCD) bus is not operational, see VEHICLE COMMUNICATIONS TESTS. If CCD BUS is operational and DRB-II displays NO RESPONSE message, go to TEST 98A  .
  3. If DRB-II does not display NO RESPONSE message, use DRB-II and change VTA status to self-diagnostics. If DRB-II does not display TURN IGNITION KEY TO ACCESSORY POSITION, go to TEST 85A  .
  4. If DRB-II displays TURN IGNITION KEY TO ACCESSORY POSITION, turn ignition key to ACCESSORY position. If DRB-II displays NO RESPONSE message after turning key to ACCESSORY position, go to TEST 84A.
  5. If DRB-II does not display NO RESPONSE message after turning key to ACCESSORY position, check if horn sounds, parking lights flash and VTA indicator light flashes (during VTA self-diagnostics). If horn did not sound, go to TEST 83A  . If VTA indicator light did not flash, go to TEST 86A  . If parking lights did not flash, go to TEST 87A  .
  6. If horn sounds, parking lights flash and VTA indicator lights did flash, turn ignition off. Open, then close left front door. If horn did not sound, go to TEST 38A  .
  7. If horn did sound, open and close right front door. If horn did not sound, go to TEST 40A  . If horn did sound, open and close right rear door. If horn did not sound, go to TEST 41A  .
  8. If horn did sound, open and close left rear door. If horn did not sound, go to TEST 39A  . If horn did sound, open and close hood. If horn did not sound, go to TEST 82A  .
  9. If horn did sound, depress power door lock switch to LOCK position. If horn does not sound, go to TEST 89A  . If horn does sound, depress power door lock switch to UNLOCK position. If horn does not sound, go to TEST 90A  .
  10. If horn does sound, rotate key cylinder (door lock) in left front door to unlock position. If horn does not sound, go to TEST 81A  . If horn does sound, rotate key cylinder in right front door to unlock position. If horn does not sound, go to TEST 88A  .
  11. If horn does sound, turn ignition on. If horn does not sound, go to TEST 85A  . If horn does sound, read VTA status. If DRB-II does not display CURRENT MODE DISARMED, go to TEST 80B  .
  12. If DRB-II displays CURRENT MODE DISARMED, disconnect trunk key cylinder sense switch 2-pin connector (near trunk latch). If DRB-II displays CIRCUIT CLOSED, go to TEST 83B  . If DRB-II does not display CIRCUIT CLOSED, reconnect trunk cylinder sense switch.
  13. Using DRB-II, read VTA/engine controller status. If DRB-II displays OK TO RUN ENG, OK TO ARM, vehicle theft alarm system is operational. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
  14. If DRB-II does not display OK TO RUN ENG, OK TO ARM, check if DRB-II displays NO RESPONSE message from engine controller. If DRB-II displays NO RESPONSE message, go to TEST 97A  . If DRB-II does not display NO RESPONSE message, and engine controller has not been replaced within last 20 engine starts, replace engine controller. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
NOTE: Engine controller refers to Powertrain Control Module (PCM). Twenty (20) engine starts must occur before VTA system becomes operational.
