Test 18A - Park Brake Engaged
NOTE:
For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION
. For wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS
. Perform TEST VER-1 after each repair.
CAUTION:
Always turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
- If vehicle is equipped with anti-lock brakes, see ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM article in BRAKES section. If vehicle is not equipped with anti-lock brakes, and parking brake is engaged, release parking brake and verify that EVIC monitor does not display PARK BRAKE ENGAGED. If parking brake is not engaged and EVIC monitor displays PARK BRAKE ENGAGED, go to next step.
- Using DRB, read parking brake switch status. Ensure no parking brake lever interference exists. If DRB displays PRK BRAKE : OPEN, go to TEST 18B. If DRB does not display PRK BRAKE : OPEN, go to next step.
- Disconnect parking brake switch connector. Check, clean and repair connections as needed. If DRB displays PRK BRAKE : OPEN, replace parking brake switch. If DRB does not display PRK BRAKE : OPEN, go to next step.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect both Body Control Module (BCM) connectors. Put DRB in ohmmeter mode. Measure resistance at BCM Natural connector terminal No. 9 (Black/White wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair Black/White wire between parking brake switch connector and BCM Natural connector for short to ground. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace BCM.
