Mitsubishi Starters are either direct drive or gear reduction type. The unit shown is a direct drive starter motor with an overrunning clutch type starter drive. A solenoid switch is mounted on the starter motor. The 2nd unit shown is a gear reduction type utilizing a planetary gear assembly to obtain higher rotational speeds with the same torque output.
