Test NTC-9: Checking Intake Air Temperature Sensor

NOTE: After making any repair during this testing procedure, perform TEST VER-2A: ROAD TEST FOR NON-OBD II  .
NOTE: Possible cause is defective IAT sensor.
NOTE: 2.0L engines are equipped with an Intake Air Temperature/Manifold Absolute Pressure (IAT/MAP) sensor. 2.4L/2.5L engines are equipped with an Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor and a separate Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor.

Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, measure and record temperature of intake air temperature sensor. Turn ignition off. Remove MAP sensor from intake manifold. See Fig 1 -Fig 3 . Using temperature probe, quickly measure air temperature on inside of intake manifold through the MAP sensor opening on intake manifold. If temperature of intake air temperature sensor on scan tool is within 10 degrees of temperature obtained on temperature probe, test is complete. If temperature of intake air temperature sensor on scan tool is not within 10 degrees of temperature obtained on temperature probe, replace intake air temperature sensor.
