Description & Operation: Notes

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Dodge Intrepid, 2002 Chrysler Intrepid, 2002 Chrysler Concorde, and 2002 Chrysler 300M. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
WARNING: Accidental air bag deployment is possible. Personal injury may result. Read and follow all WARNINGS and AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS  before working on air bag system or related components.

Supplemental Restraint System (SRS), or air bag system, is designed to deploy air bags in a frontal or lateral (side) impact of moderate to severe force. The SRS uses an Air Bag Control Module (ACM), also known as Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC), and right and left-side Side Impact Air Bag Control Modules (SIACM) to determine direction and severity of impact, deploy air bags and monitor system readiness. When impact sensors registers sufficient deceleration force during a front-end or side collision, ORC or SIACM deploys appropriate air bags.

The air bag system consists of an AIR BAG warning light (also known as AIR BAG warning indicator), driver-side air bag module, passenger-side air bag module, right and left-side air bag modules, clockspring, right and left-side Side Impact Air Bag Control Modules (SIACM) and ORC. The ORC contains a energy-storage capacitor safing sensor and a single impact sensor. See COMPONENT LOCATIONS  .
