42LE Transmission Verification Test VER-1

  1. Turn ignition off. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). Reconnect any disconnected components. Using scan tool, erase all TCM DTCs. Using scan tool, monitor transmission temperature. Start engine and run until transmission temperature is more than 110°F (43.3°C). Check fluid level and add fluid if necessary.
  2. NOTE: If transmission and/or torque converter has been replaced or repaired, use scan tool to perform QUICK LEARN PROCEDURE and reset PINION FACTOR. See appropriate ELECTRONIC CONTROLS article AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS.
  3. Road test vehicle and monitor engine RPM. Make 15 to 20 1-2, 2-3 and 3-4 upshifts from a standing stop to 45 MPH with throttle at a constant 20-25 degree opening. Slow to less than 25 MPH and make 5-8 wide open throttle 2-1 and 3-1 downshifts. Allow at least 5 seconds between each downshift.
  4. Drive vehicle and attempt to recreate condition as when DTC was set to verify repair. Check for DTCs during road test. If repaired DTC resets, repair is not complete. Check for related TSBs. If no TSB applies, return to SPEED CONTROL INOPERATIVE  under TROUBLE SHOOTING. If any other DTC sets, go to appropriate diagnostic procedure under DIAGNOSTIC TESTS  .
