Powertrain Verification Test VER-4

NOTE: If PCM has been replaced, and correct VIN and mileage have not been programmed, a DTC will be set in ABS and air bag modules. If vehicle is equipped with Sentry Key Immobilizer Module (SKIM), secret key data must be updated to enable starting. Program vehicle-specific modules. See PROGRAMMING in BODY CONTROL MODULES - CONCORDE, INTREPID, LHS & 300M article.
  1. Turn ignition off. Reconnect all disconnected components and connectors. Ensure all engine components are properly connected, grounded and installed.
  2. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC) and erase DTCs from all modules. For ABS and air bag systems, enter correct VIN and mileage in PCM.
  3. Turn Speed Control (S/C) ON. CRUISE indicator will come on. Depress and release SET switch. If speed control does not engage, repair is not complete. Check for related Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs). If no TSB applies, return to SPEED CONTROL INOPERATIVE  under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
  4. Quickly depress and release ACCEL/RESUME switch. If vehicle speed does not increase by at least 2 MPH, repair is not complete. Check for related TSBs. If no TSB applies, return to SPEED CONTROL INOPERATIVE  under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
  5. Press and hold COAST switch. Vehicle speed should decrease. If vehicle speed does not decrease, repair is not complete. Check for related TSBs. If no TSB applies, return to SPEED CONTROL INOPERATIVE  under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
  6. Using caution, press and release brake pedal. If S/C does not disengage, repair is not complete. Check for related TSBs. If no TSB applies, return to SPEED CONTROL INOPERATIVE  under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
  7. Bring vehicle speed back up to 35 MPH. Depress ACCEL/RESUME switch. If S/C does not resume previously set speed, repair is not complete. Check for related TSBs. If no TSB applies, return to SPEED CONTROL INOPERATIVE  under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
  8. Hold down SET switch. If vehicle does not decelerate, repair is not complete. Check for related TSBs. If no TSB applies, return to SPEED CONTROL INOPERATIVE  under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
  9. Ensure vehicle speed is more than 35 MPH and release SET switch. If vehicle does not adjust and set a new speed, repair is not complete. Check for related TSBs. If no TSB applies, return to SPEED CONTROL INOPERATIVE  under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
  10. Depress and release CANCEL switch. If S/C does not disengage, repair is not complete. Check for related TSBs. If no TSB applies, return to SPEED CONTROL INOPERATIVE  under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
  11. Bring vehicle speed to 35 MPH and engage S/C. Turn S/C off. CRUISE indicator should turn off. If S/C does not disengage, repair is not complete. Check for related TSBs. If no TSB applies, return to SPEED CONTROL INOPERATIVE  under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
  12. If S/C passes all tests, S/C system is functioning as designed. Repair is complete. If S/C does not pass all tests, return to SPEED CONTROL INOPERATIVE  under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
