  1. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, clear DTCs. Cycle ignition on and off several times. Using scan tool, read DTCs. If DTC P1687 is displayed, go to next step. If DTC P1687 is not displayed, go to step  3 .
  2. Turn ignition on. If odometer displays NO BUS, go to next step. If odometer does not display NO BUS, go to step  4 .
  3. Turn ignition off. Disconnect PCM harness connectors. See Figure . Disconnect instrument cluster harness connectors. Measure resistance of PCI bus (Violet/Yellow wire) between terminal No. 26 at instrument cluster C1 harness connector and terminal No. 59 at PCM C2 harness connector. See Figure and Fig 1 . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace instrument cluster. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in PCI bus.
  4. Turn ignition off. Visually inspect related wiring harness. Check for chafed, pierced, pinched or partially broken wires. Visually inspect related wiring harness connectors. Check for broken, bent, pushed out or corroded terminals. Refer to any Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) that may apply. Perform a wiggle test on related wiring harnesses with engine running.
