Fuel Tank: Removal

  1. Release fuel pressure from fuel system. See FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE . Remove rear seat cushion. Disconnect 4-pin electrical connector for fuel pump module.
  2. Disconnect negative battery cable at remote battery terminal on passenger's side strut tower. Remove fuel tank cap to release any residual fuel tank pressure. Raise and support vehicle.
  3. To drain fuel tank, place container under fuel filler tube at fuel tank. Loosen and remove fuel filler tube from fuel tank. See Fig 1. Position siphon hose into tank at fuel filler tube connection and drain fuel into an approved gasoline container.
  4. Remove rear stabilizer bar mount bracket-to-body bolts. Swing rear stabilizer bar toward rear of vehicle. Disconnect fuel and EVAP lines. See Fig 2. Support fuel tank with transmission jack.
  5. Remove passenger's side and then driver's side fuel tank straps. Slowly lower fuel tank. Disconnect vent and purge lines from fuel tank. Remove wiring harness from the heat shield, if necessary.
  6. Continue to lower fuel tank and remove wiring harness from stud on fuel tank. Remove wiring harness from body. Remove Natural Vacuum Leak Detection (NVLD) filter from mounting location. Lower and remove fuel tank from vehicle.
