Courtesy/Dome Lights Inoperative From Headlight Switch
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Dodge Ram Wagon, 2002 Dodge Ram Van, 2001 Dodge Ram Wagon, and 2001 Dodge Ram Van. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
Possible Causes:
- Courtesy Lamp Switch Output Circuit Open
- Fuse No. 1 Open Test
- All Courtesy/Dome Lamp Bulbs Open
- Fuse No. 1 B+ Circuit Open
- Courtesy Lamp Driver Circuit Open
- Headlamp Switch Ground Circuit Open
- Headlamp Switch Courtesy Lamp Driver Circuit Open
- CTM Courtesy Lamp Driver Circuit Open
Testing
- Remove and inspect fuse No. 1 (15-amp) from fuse/relay block. Fuses are identified on fuse/relay block cover. If fuse is blown, check for short to ground in Yellow wire circuit. If fuse is okay, remove and inspect inoperative bulbs. Replace bulbs as necessary. If bulbs are okay, go to next step.
- Using a DVOM, measure voltage at fuse No. 1 connector in fuse/relay block. If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, repair open between Power Distribution Center (PDC) and fuse No. 1 in fuse/relay block.
- Disconnect headlight switch harness connectors. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Connect fused jumper wire between ground and headlight switch harness connector terminal "D" (Yellow wire). If courtesy/dome lights illuminate, go to next step. If courtesy/dome lights do not illuminate, repair open in Yellow wire circuit.
- Using a DVOM, measure resistance between ground and 1-pin headlight switch ground harness connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open or high resistance in headlight switch ground circuit.
- Ensure dome/courtesy light defeat function is not disabling interior lights (not turned all the way clockwise). Ensure headlight switch 9-pin harness connector is disconnected and all other connectors are connected. Connect fused jumper wire between ground and headlight switch harness connector terminal "D" (Yellow wire). If none of the courtesy/dome lights illuminate, go to next step. If any courtesy/dome lights illuminate, replace headlight switch. See HEADLIGHT SWITCH under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
- Disconnect front courtesy/dome light harness connector (2-pin on Ram Van; 3-pin on Ram Wagon). Disconnect headlight switch harness connector. Using a DVOM, measure resistance of Yellow wire between headlight switch harness connector terminal "D" and front courtesy/dome light harness connector terminal No. 1. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Yellow wire circuit.
- Connect fused jumper wire between ground and White 18-pin Central Timer Module (CTM) harness connector C2 terminal No. 2 (Yellow wire). See Figure . If courtesy/dome lights illuminate, replace CTM. See CENTRAL TIMER MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If courtesy/dome lights do not illuminate, problem is intermittent. Check for open or loose connection in Yellow wire circuit.
