Courtesy/Dome Lights Stay On

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Dodge Ram Wagon, 2002 Dodge Ram Van, 2001 Dodge Ram Wagon, and 2001 Dodge Ram Van. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Possible Causes:

  1. Possible Incorrect Door Ajar Switch States
  2. Courtesy Lamp Driver Circuit Short To Ground
  3. Headlamp Switch Courtesy/Dome Lamp Short To Ground

Testing

  1. Ensure all doors are completely closed. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC), located under left side of instrument panel. Using scan tool, actuate auxiliary door switches to read OPEN. Read DOOR AJAR STATE status for all doors. If scan tool displays DOOR AJAR STATE: CLOSED for any door, perform appropriate test(s) under DOOR AJAR SYSTEM  . If scan tool reads DOOR AJAR STATE: OPEN for all doors, go to next step.
  2. Disconnect headlight switch harness connectors. Observe courtesy/dome lights. If courtesy/dome lights do not turn off, go to next step. If courtesy/dome lights turn off, replace headlight switch. See HEADLIGHT SWITCH  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  3. Ensure headlight switch is not turned fully counterclockwise. Ensure vanity mirror lights (if equipped) and front reading light(s) are turned off. Ensure ignition switch is in OFF position. Disconnect White 18-pin Central Timer Module (CTM) harness connector C2. Using a DVOM, measure resistance between ground and CTM harness connector C2 terminal No. 2 (Yellow wire). See Figure . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Yellow wire circuit. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, problem is intermittent.
