Gearshift Mechanism: Installation

- Install shifter mechanism (2). See Fig 1. mechanism-to-floor pan nuts to 17 N.m (150 in. lbs.).
1 - CLIP 2 - CABLE 3 - CONDUIT BRACKET 4 - SHIFT PIN - Install gearshift cable (2) into conduit bracket (3) and onto shift pin (4). Install retainer clip (1). See Fig 2.
- Tighten cable adjuster nut to 23 N.m (200 in. lbs.).
1 - SHIFTER ASSEMBLY 2 - INTERLOCK CABLE - Insert interlock cable core wire into interlock adjustment lever groove. Make sure the interlock cable (2) slug is seated in the groove.
- Insert interlock cable adjuster end into bracket and snap into place.
- Adjust the gearshift and interlock cables(Refer to TRANSMISSION/TRANSAXLE/AUTOMATIC - 40TE/GEAR SHIFT CABLE - ADJUSTMENTS)
.NOTE: Gearshift and Interlock cables MUST be adjusted. Refer to ADJUSTMENTS for proper procedures.
1 - AUTOSTICK CONNECTOR - If equipped with Autostick, connect the Autostick connector (1). See Fig 4.
1 - CENTER CONSOLE 2 - SCREW 3 - PARK BRAKE HANDLE - - - Install center console assembly (1). See Fig 5.
1 - CENTER CONSOLE ASSEMBLY 2 - GEARSHIFT BEZEL 3 - LAMP CONNECTOR - Connect range indicator lamp (3) and install gearshift bezel (2). See Fig 6.
1 - SHIFTER KNOB 2 - SET SCREW - Install the gearshift knob (1) and tighten set screw (2) to 2 N.m (20 in.lbs.). See Fig 7.
- Connect the battery negative cable.
