Theory of Operation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2009 Dodge Sprinter. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The ORC also provides electronic message outputs over the CAN data bus following a supplemental restraint deployment event. This output is used to signal other electronic modules in the vehicle to provide their enhanced accident response features, which include, automatically disabling the engine from running, unlocking all of the doors and illuminating the interior lighting. However, these responses are each dependent upon the circuits, components, and modules controlling these features remaining intact from collateral damage incurred during the vehicle impact.
