Spark Test
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1990 Daihatsu Rocky and 1990 Daihatsu Charade. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- With ignition off, remove fuel pump and injector relays from relay block. See Fig 1 . Connect an inductive timing light to the coil wire.
- Crank engine. Timing light should flash as engine is cranked. If timing light does not flash, check ignition coil, ignitor and distributor connections.
- If connections are good, check resistance of high-tension wires. If resistance is not within specification, replace wires. See HIGH TENSION WIRE RESISTANCE . If wires are okay, proceed to next step.
- With ignition on, check for voltage at positive (+) terminal of ignition coil. If no voltage exists, check wiring between ignition switch and ignition coil. If voltage exists, proceed to next step.
- Check ignition coil resistance. See IGNITION COIL RESISTANCE TESTS . Replace ignition coil if resistance is not within specification. If coil resistance is within specification, proceed to next step.
- Check pick-up coil resistance. See PICK-UP COIL RESISTANCE TEST . Replace distributor if pick-up coil resistance is not within specification. If resistance is within specification and all previous tests were okay, replace ignitor.
