Idle-Up VSV

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1990 Daihatsu Rocky and 1990 Daihatsu Charade. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. On Charade, remove glove compartment subassembly. On all models, install Sub-Harness (SST 09842-87704-000) between ECU and engine wiring. See Figure .
NOTE: Before installing sub-harness, ensure continuity exists on all sub-harness leads, and ensure none of the terminals are shorted together.
  2. Reconnect negative battery cable. Disconnect rubber hoses connected to idle-up VSV. Connect a vacuum pump to idle-up VSV and apply 3.94 in. Hg. Replace valve assembly if unable to obtain vacuum.
  3. Turn all accessories off. Turn ignition on. Make sure vacuum applied in step 2) drops to zero. If vacuum fails to drop, ensure voltage exists between sub-harness terminals No. 37 and 39. See Figure .
  4. If voltage does not exist, ensure resistance between terminals of idle-up VSV is 30-50 ohms. Replace valve assembly if resistance is NOT within specification. If resistance is within specification, check wiring between ECU and main relay. Repair as necessary.
  5. Start engine. After one minute, connect a vacuum pump to idle-up VSV and apply 3.94 in. Hg. If vacuum cannot be obtained, check and/or repair wiring between idle-up VSV and ECU.
  6. If wiring is good, ensure voltage exists between sub-harness terminals No. 17 and 39. If voltage exists, check wiring between headlight switch and/or defogger switch and ECU.
  7. Turn headlight and/or defogger switch on. Ensure vacuum applied in step 5) drops to zero. If vacuum does not drop to zero, ensure voltage exists between sub-harness terminals No. 17 and 39.
  8. If voltage does not exist, check wiring between headlight and/or defogger switch and ECU. Repair wiring (as necessary). Turn headlight and/or defogger switch off. Apply 3.94 in. Hg to idle-up VSV.
  9. Turn blower fan switch on. Ensure vacuum applied in step 8) drops to zero. If not, check wiring between idle-up VSV and blower fan switch. Repair wiring as necessary.
  10. Disconnect negative battery cable and remove sub-harness. Reconnect ECU and install battery cable. Reinstall vacuum hoses.
