Oxygen Sensor Test

  1. Set parking brake and connect tachometer. Disconnect and plug vacuum hose going to computer. Using an auxiliary vacuum source, apply 14 in. Hg to computer.
  2. Run engine at 2000 RPM and connect voltmeter to carburtor-to-computer output wire (Green). DO NOT ground carburetor switch. Hold choke blade closed. During the next 10 seconds, voltage should decrease to 5 volts or less and maintain that level. If engine does not respond as outlined, go to next step.
  3. Disconnect PCV system. During next 10 seconds, voltage should increase to 10 volts or greater and maintain that level until vacuum hose is reconnected. If sensor fails both tests, replace it. Reconnect all hoses and wires.
NOTE: Test should not be performed for more than 90 seconds.
