Basic Advance Timing
- Connect a tachometer between the negative side of coil and a good ground. Connect an adjustable timing light to No. 1 cylinder of engine. Connect a jumper wire between carburetor switch and a good ground.
- Be sure vacuum line is connected to vacuum transducer on computer. Start engine, set parking brake, place transmission in Neutral and warm to operating temperature.
- Ensure engine idle RPM is at or below 680-780 RPM (Calif. 2-Bbl.), 650-750 RPM (All Others). Aim timing light so basic timing signal is seen at timing plate. Basic timing should be 16° BTDC at idle RPM with transmission in Neutral and vacuum transducer hose connected.
