Choke System Test

  1. Remove air cleaner and start engine. Choke should be fully open. If choke position is okay, go to step 3). If choke position is not okay, go to step 2).
  2. With engine running, connect voltmeter to choke feed wire and ground. Voltmeter should read within 1 volt of battery voltage. If voltage is okay, check for binding linkage. If okay, replace choke thermostat housing. If voltage is not okay, go to step 3).
  3. Turn off engine. Disconnect oil pressure switch connector. Connect voltmeter to terminal C of oil pressure switch connector and ground. Turn ignition switch to "RUN" position. Voltage should be within 1 volt of battery voltage. If voltage is okay, go to step 4). If voltage is not okay, repair open circuit in harness to ignition switch.
  4. Disconnect oil pressure switch connector. Connect ohmmeter between terminal A of connector and choke connector. Ohmmeter should show continuity with no resistance. If there is continuity, replace oil pressure switch. If there is no continuity, repair open circuit in harness.
