Code 17 - Throttle Control Solenoid System Test

  1. Connect readout box to engine harness connector. Ensure that carburetor switch is open. Turn ignition switch to "RUN" position. Place read/hold switch in the "HOLD" position. Code 55 should be on display of readout box.
  2. Connect voltmeter to Gray wire of dual solenoid 3-wire connector and ground. Press and hold ATM button until test code 97 appears on display. If voltmeter reading is pulsating and solenoid is clicking, check for a poor connection in harness circuit. If voltmeter is not pulsating buts reads within 1 volt of battery voltage, go to step 3). If voltmeter is not pulsating but reads 0-1 volt, disconnect computer 14-wire connector. If voltage is now within 1 volt of battery voltage, replace computer. If not, go to step 4).
  3. Turn ignition switch off. Disconnect computer 14-wire connector. Connect a voltmeter to cavity No. 6 of 14-wire connector and ground. Turn ignition switch to "RUN" position. If voltmeter reads within 1 volt of battery voltage, replace computer. If not, inspect wire from cavity No. 6 to throttle control vacuum solenoid for open and repair as needed.
  4. Turn ignition switch off. Disconnect dual solenoid 3-wire connector. Connect ohmmeter between Blue and Gray wires in dual solenoid connector. If ohmmeter shows any resistance, check Gray wire to computer for a short to ground. If circuit is open, replace throttle control solenoid.
