Test 19 - Solenoid Kicker System Check

  1. Remove air cleaner cover. Have an assistant turn the ignition switch to the "RUN" position while you observe the solenoid kicker plunger. Slowly open the throttle. The plunger should move out when the key is turned on or when the throttle is opened. If plunger movement is okay, proceed to step 2). If plunger movement is not okay, replace the solenoid.
    NOTE: Before replacing the solenoid kicker, ensure the solenoid adjusting screw is not turned in all the way preventing plunger movement.
  2. Disconnect vacuum hose from solenoid kicker. Connect a vacuum pump to the solenoid kicker. Apply 15 in. Hg vacuum and then release vacuum. The plunger should move out when vacuum is applied and return when vacuum is released. If plunger movement is okay, proceed to TEST 20  . If plunger movement is not okay, replace solenoid kicker.
